Testing for Prostate Cancer

The PSA Test

Often, early-stage prostate cancer has no symptoms or signs. It is usually found through a PSA test. These tests only indicate that prostate cancer MAY be present, and after a positive test, further diagnosis is needed to confirm the presence of prostate cancer.bbbbbb

One component of fluid produced by the prostate gland is an enzyme called Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) and proportionally a small amout finds its way into the blood stream.

PSA testing cuts the chances of developing advanced prostate cancer by about 30 percent and the risk of dying from the disease by about 20 percent.
