We Run 4 Free

Taunton Running Club (TRC) - a brief history

Generally, most running clubs are affiliated to UK Athletics, with their strict rule book and code of conduct. Formed on the 9th of September 2014, as an independent club, TRC provided a 'home' for the vast majority of people that just run for fun, to keep fit or run for charity. The club's motto is "WE RUN 4 FUN - WE RUN 4 FREE". With this philosophy, the club grew and quickly became not only the biggest club in Somerset but the most significant independent club in the UK. TRC is proud to play a major role in the health and wellbeing of our community and won the Taunton Deane Volunteer Group of the Year award in 2018.

Sponsored by local businesses, the club is FREE to join and has no annual or session fees. The club decided early on to remove the elitism that exists in many other clubs as this often acts as a deterrent to those less able. To this end, our running groups each have frivolous names such as Bluebirds, Sneakers etc.

TRC has continuously pioneered new ideas such as MumsRun, KidsRun, TRCyclists, and many of our members are multi-eventers. Being an independent club has also meant that kids can run with their parents (or a supervising adult)

Taunton Running Club - Couch to 5K

Beginners: we have always welcomed beginners, and this has culminated in a very successful Couch to 5K programme that runs three times a year. With welcome and careful support, many graduates of this programme have remained regular members of the club.

In March 2020 the COVID-19 virus pandemic forced the club to suspend its activities for a period.
